They’re dropping like flies! Another sad day for lads mag lovers.
We recently posted an article about Playboy magazine, and how an overall tendency for people to get their kicks through free online porn, have led them toward a re-think of how they present their magazine and website. In their case, it meant the removal of full nudity – to make them less pornographic – and the total overhaul of their website, making it safe-for-work and include not just hot women, but also a lot more general entertainment.
As much as they have had to adjust their business model, at least they have been able to stay in business.
The same cannot be said for FHM and Zoo magazines, who have suspended publication, following in the footsteps of the likes of Loaded and Nuts, who have both closed in the last 18 months. The main reason for this is a decline in sales, as more people move to online media.
This really is the end of an era! I myself can remember in my university houses, living with a few other guys, we’d always have the latest Nuts/Zoo/FHM floating about. But I too am an example of how it’s all gone wrong for them, having not bought either magazine in years! Although, some of that is probably about reaching my 30s and growing out of “lad culture” somewhat. Also, you know, I work here, so who needs a magazine?
