There is no denying that we as a nation love porn, but with the UK government cracking down on porn sites and making it impossible to peruse porn without being age verified, we are all left wondering where the hell that leaves us. Porn passes will be available to purchase from your local newsagent and will require ID, such as a passport or driving licence. The 10 quid card has a 16-digit-code that you would then input into your chosen porn site. But if you don’t fancy telling the dude at your local shop what you plan to get up that evening, don’t despair, because there are still other ways of getting verified, such as inputting your credit card details into a centralised data system.
Chief executive at BBFC David Austin, told reporters:
People can expect to see a choice of age-verification options, typically from third party providers, so there’s no need to share any personal data with a pornography website.
An adult website need only receive a ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to confirm the results of the age check. There is no need for the age-verification provider to pass on any personal details to a pornographic website nor to store personal data.
Obviously the age verification law is being brought in to stop kids and teens being able to access porn sites, but surely these porn passes kind of defeat the point?! A teen could easily just ask a passing adult to buy the pass for them if they chuck them a few quid; They’ve been doing it with booze and cigs for as long as I can remember.
