It\u2019s been nearly a year since Covid-19 was first identified by scientists and the world has been pretty bleak since. We\u2019ve seen economies and societies around the world shut down multiple times and people have been isolating in their homes as they watched holidays and cancelled events roll on by.<\/p>\n

However, if Yale professor and social epidemiologist Dr. Nicholas Christakis<\/a>‘ future predictions are anything to go by, we might be in for a \u201croaring 20\u2019s\u201d post-pandemic sexual awakening, which is of great comfort to those who were thinking a global depression was on the horizon. Dr. Christakis, author of \u2018Apollo\u2019s Arrow: The Profound and Enduring Impact of Coronavirus on the Way We Live\u2019, says that society will eventually emerge and make up for lost time by replacing conservative socialising with hedonism, sexual licentiousness, vice and indulgence. Heck yeah. Count me in!<\/p>\n

One of the arguments in Christakis\u2019 book is that although the current pandemic may seem alien and unnatural to us, it isn\u2019t new to our species. Christakis\u2019 observations of disease is that pandemics always end. Then, once pandemics end, there is always a period wherever people seek out extensive social interaction, much like the \u201croaring 20s\u201d which happened just after the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic. Here\u2019s what Christakis told the Guardian:<\/p>\n

During epidemics you get increases in religiosity, people become more abstentious, they save money, they get risk averse and we\u2019re seeing all of that now, just as we have for hundreds of years during epidemics. In 2024, all of those pandemic trends will be reversed. People will relentlessly seek out social interactions. That could include sexual licentiousness, liberal spending, and a reverse of religiosity.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
