The UK’s most best-known adult brand says Britain’s new adult site law hasn’t impacted usage with traffic looking “highly positive”.
Babestation, which celebrates 23 years since its inception in 2002, offers a mixture of live cam and phone sex services – both online and on TV.
On 25 July, a change to the UK’s Online Safety Act saw adult companies forced to perform an age verification check on all users.
It was brought in as a measure to protect children from being able to easily access adult content.
The response from the adult industry has been mixed.
One company, called xHamster – which claims to have six million “hardcore sex” videos on its site – told The News Movement that traffic had “decreased by 85%.
But other brands welcome the change.
“Babestation has experienced a highly positive outcome,” said Ella Oakley, Talent and Influencer Manager at Babestation.
“Of our user base, 95% have already been successfully age verified.
“We’ve seen consistent traffic since implementation and only anticipate this continuing to rise.
“As one of the UK’s most trusted adult brands, Babestation has a long-standing legacy of prioritising user safety and protecting minors.
“We fully support the new age verification regulations and see them as a necessary and beneficial step forward for the industry.”
On 1 August, Ofcom announced that it had opened “formal investigations” into four providers which operate 34 sites, with over nine million unique UK monthly visitors.
The regulator has said it “can impose fines of up to £18m or 10% of qualifying worldwide revenue” if it finds a brand has failed to comply with the new law.
