Former Premier League midfielder and popular television personality Jimmy Bullard has a reputation for his entertaining antics both on and off the pitch. One of the most famous stories from his playing days involves a mischievous moment that stunned his former teammate, ex-goalkeeper David Stockdale.
The humorous anecdote, recounted by Stockdale on the Under The Cosh podcast, took place shortly after Bullard arrived at Ipswich Town, insisting on being roomed with Stockdale. One evening, while the two were relaxing in their hotel room, a Babestation broadcast was playing.
Stockdale recalled Bullard casually claiming, “Look, I know her,” in reference to the model on screen. When Stockdale expressed disbelief, Bullard decided to prove his claim in a highly unorthodox way: by calling the live hotline.
Much to Stockdale’s shock, the model immediately recognised him. “He picks the phone up, ‘alright love, it’s Jimbo’,” Stockdale recounted. “And she went, ‘alight Jimbo, how are you doing?'”
The exchange continued with Bullard making various outlandish requests, leaving his teammate utterly bewildered. When pressed on how he knew the model, Bullard’s answer was simple: “I rang her the other week.”
The story provides a classic example of Bullard’s personality, blending cheekiness with genuine familiarity in a moment that highlights the unexpected intersections between the worlds of professional sport and glamour entertainment.
Bullard, who played for clubs including Wigan Athletic, Fulham, and Hull City, ended his professional career at MK Dons after leaving Ipswich Town, and has since gone on to a successful television career.
