Over the past five years, quite a number of once prevalent practices have vanished from the UK babe channels. In some cases, it’s been a good riddance. ‘Spanking’, for example, was always a lawsuit waiting to happen, and even before any potential legal action was considered it was clearly sending out entirely the wrong message, and it inevitably caused trouble between some of the girls. In mid 2009, responding to a texter’s request, one model revealed on air that she’d been ordered to sign an agreement stating that she would not again smack any of her colleagues, and this came in the immediate wake of a completely separate case in which two girls had apparently been separated across two different shows after a spanking-incident-gone-wrong. Anything which could work its way into the category of physical assault was a stupid idea from the start, and it never had any place on the live babeshows – whatever the time of night.

But other activities were less easy to assess. A whole host of practices which could loosely be described as mild sexual acts included various forms of touching, sucking and kissing. All are now firmly off the agenda, but is that due to regulation, or internal policy, or both?

Well, the babe channels certainly need to be careful with the regulator when content is liable to be interpreted by the public as sexual (especially since the shows’ reclassification as ‘Teleshopping’ and Ofcom’s issue of guidelines). But equally, as employers, the babe channels have a duty to protect their employees from any conduct they could reasonably find unacceptable. Particularly in a live broadcast, where there’s pressure on the girls not to appear unprofessional by raising objections, seduction becomes a grey area. Remember, this is not mime, or fantasy. If a TV babe kisses a colleague, the act, if not the emotion, is real. Physical contact brings with it a raft of potential risks or reprisals for the employer, and some would contend that kissing and touching isn’t, or shouldn’t be, part of a telephone model’s job.

This of course isn’t to say that all TV babes object to kissing or being touched by their colleagues. Some duos have had fantastic chemistry over the years, and have genuinely looked to be enjoying themselves in intense two-girl sections. Veteran of S66, Red Light Central and of course Babestation, Georgie Darby and Camilla practically had to be prized apart by backstage staff in the May of 2010 when their joint sections were allowed to develop into lip-locked “get-a-room” extravaganzas. At one stage they completely missed their cue to talk on the mic. After the usual countdown, the girls were still snogging away oblivious, and the producer could be heard repeating the word “one” louder and louder until they finally took notice.

Dionne and Geri

It’s quite surprising looking back, just how many names did kiss on screen in the days when such conduct was allowed (and sometimes even encouraged). Other memorable duos from babeshows like Studio 66, Xpanded, S66 Chat and other Freeview shows include Daryl Morgan and Kandi Kay, Jemma Jey and Geri, Aimee Luis and Amanda RendallDionne Mendez and… well, too many to list…

The demise of kissing and touching on the Freeview babeshows did correspond pretty closely with the reclassification of the babe channels as Teleshopping in latter 2010. It didn’t die out overnight, but by early 2011 kissing was unusual, and by the start of 2012 it was no more than a fading memory. I know many fans really miss it, but do the babes? Well, you can never generalise. I suspect some girls were perfectly happy with it and found it a useful commercial tool, whilst others probably hated the very thought of it and celebrate the day it was fully and completely banned.  Catch the next girl on girl Pervcam show and you could see kissing and much more besides!  Register for babecall now!
