Mary Millington
Known as 'Sweet Mary', Mary Millington has been recognised as one of the UK's very first X-rated film stars. There is even a blue plaque for her in Soho! Mary's most famous soft porn film, Come Play With Me, played continuously for four years in old Moulin Cinema in London's Soho. Described as one of the 'hottest British sex film stars of the seventies', Mary began her porn career to pay for her mother's care after initially becoming a glamour model in the late 1960s, and from there found herself gradually moving into hardcore porn. She once famously said: 'I treat sex as something to be enjoyed, something to be savoured, something to cling to, something to be indulged in whenever possible. A petite woman measuring 4 feet 11 inches initially began working to support her sick mother financially. Mary really believed in legalising pornography she even had her own sex shop Whitehouse in Norbury.
Managed by porn legend David Sullivan, she became the number one sex symbol in Britain. Known for her captivating beauty and magnetic presence, she quickly rose to fame and captured the hearts of many with her alluring charm. Her career soared under Sullivan's guidance, as he recognized her potential and helped shape her image in the industry in films like Playbirds. Their collaboration not only solidified her status as a sex symbol but also paved the way for her success in the entertainment world.
The old slogan of "Make Love Not War" was a very good one.' In 1977 her small role in Sullivan's Come Play With Me made her a household name, as did the publicity campaign for the film during which Mary famously posed alongside a police officer outside 10 Downing Street and unexpectedly flashed her breasts for the cameras. However Mary's life ended suddenly and tragically in August 1979 when she took her own life at the age of just 33. She was buried beside her mother at St Mary Magdalene Church yard in South Holmwood on August 24, 1979. Speaking about Mary's life, Dorking historian Kathy Atherton said: "[She was] a very sad character really but she had a huge fan base - and still does. "At the graveyard they often still get visitors and flowers on her grave, even though it is small and unobtrusive. A documentary called Respectable - The Mary Millington Story, which follows the porn star and model's life was made in 2016.
Fiona Richmond
The 70’s other star was Fiona Richmond. Fiona Richmond rose to fame as a British sex symbol during the 1970s, captivating audiences with her daring performances in a variety of risqué plays, comedy revues, magazines, and films. Alongside Mary Millington, she was hailed as one of the most alluring British sex film stars of that era. While Mary Millington is often linked to her collaborations with Porn Baron David Sullivan, Fiona Richmond is forever intertwined with the legendary King of Soho, Paul Raymond.
Fiona Richmond's magnetic presence and boundary-pushing roles solidified her status as an icon of sensuality and allure during a time of cultural revolution and changing attitudes towards sexuality.
In 1971, Paul Raymond took control and revitalized the adult magazine Men Only, later expanding his portfolio to include Razzle and Mayfair. Raymond met Fiona when she was one of the models showcased in his magazines, and she subsequently became Raymond's girlfriend.
Her column in Raymond's Men Only magazine, in which she described her supposed sexual adventures with men and women around the world, brought her even more fame. Richmond also took part in the play's 1972 UK tour. In 1977, she starred in Women Behind Bars alongside Divine at the Whitehall Theatre. Richmond continued her involvement in Raymond's nude productions with Yes, We Have No Pyjamas in 1979 and Wot! No Pyjamas! .
She made her film debut (billed under the name Amber Harrison) in Not Tonight, Darling (1971), which led to larger roles in X-rated movies such as the psychological thriller Exposé (1976). Others included Hardcore (1977) – also titled Frankly Fiona – a sex comedy in which she played herself and Let's Get Laid (1977), a mistaken-identity comedy that had no connection to the stage show of the same name. She also appeared in Raymond's Electric Blue video series, hosting the first of them in 1979. Her later roles included the Queen of France in the Mel Brooks comedy History of the World, Part I (1981), an appearance in an episode of the TV comedy series The Comic Strip Presents... in 1983, and the role of Fiona the KGB agent in the all-star black comedy Eat The Rich (1987).

Linzi Drew
Whilst not as famous as Mary and Fiona, Linzi Drew had a diverse career within the UK sex industry. She held roles such as a Page 3 model, stripper, glamour model, and porn actress. Additionally, she served as the editor of the British version of Penthouse magazine. During the 1980s, she featured nude in Club International magazine on a monthly basis.
In the 1990s, she faced legal issues for the unauthorized distribution of pornography, a topic discussed in the BBC Open Space documentary "More Sex Please, We're British" (1993) with her then-boyfriend, Simon Honey, also known as Ben Dover.
Under the guidance of glamour photographer George Harrison Marks, she appeared in two short erotic videos focusing on corporal punishment: "Warden’s End" (1981) by Janus magazine and "The Cane and Mr. Abel" (1984) produced by Kane International Video. She was also featured on the cover of Roger Waters' 1984 album, "The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking," and in the film shown during the subsequent live tour.
