If you’ve never heard of Projekt Melody, or Melody for short, she is a smoking hot 3D live streamer but you can also call her a VTuber. She first appeared on the scene when her Twitter account opened in July 2019. She then set up a twitch account in early 2020 where she regularly live streams. With an anime look and bright blue hair, Melody has amassed hundreds of thousands of fans and is now starting to venture out beyond Twitch.
Last month Projekt Melody went out and about in the big wide world and if you’re wondering how a 3D character can walk around the streets of Tokyo it’s actually pretty cool and maybe a teeny bit creepy. Melody was able to take her character out in the real world thanks to the help of an iPad and a “volunteer” body. The whole bizarre setup meant that Melody could walk around Tokyo and even enjoy a nice romantic date.
Despite having already been banned a few times on Twitch, Projekt Melody keeps coming back stronger and today she is one of the most popular Vtubers. With half a million Twitch followers and another half a million subscribers on YouTube, Projekt Melody is the first of her kind and the fact that she is able to take the Vtuber experience beyond the virtual world gives us an insight into what life might be like one day. Not gonna lie, I’m definitely getting Black Mirror vibes here.

During Melody’s date, the volunteer body, who happens to be a fellow streamer by the name of Highgai, strapped an iPad to his face so he could basically be used as a vessel for Melody. She was then able to walk around Tokyo with her date, Shibuya Kaho, and chit chat about anything they wanted. Unsurprisingly they received a lot of attention from members of the public but everyone was pretty respectful. Can you imagine if this happened in the UK?! You’d probably just get the iPad nicked.
With this sort of Vtuber tech it opens up a whole new world of endless possibilities. I vote we do it with the Babestation babes so our viewers can take their fave model on a date. It’d be pretty cool to see Beth Bennett’s stunning face pop up on an iPad whilst she strolls around London using a volunteer body.
