Porn watchers in the UK now face a crackdown as the government’s new Digital Economy will soon force people to verify their age before viewing any x-rated material. Now I’m not talking a quick ‘click here if you’re over 18’ button. I’m talking inputting your credit card details and even registering your age at the post office kinda verification. While I’m all for age verification as it stops kids from viewing things they really shouldn’t we viewing, registering at the post office is a tad extreme, not to mention embarrassing!
Digital privacy campaigners have expressed their concern about the new laws, stating that people verifying their age could open them up to Ashley Madison type leaks if the long list of porn users were to fall into the wrong hands.
That’s all you bloody need. Getting in shit with the Mrs for jacking off to a few naughty videos. For many guys, porn is an escape and a release at the end of a long day. He shouldn’t have to worry about being exposed for something that is meant to be a private moment between you and your computer screen. Campaigner Jim Killock says:
If the government wants to have Age Verification in place, it must mandate a system that increases the privacy and safety of end users, since the users will be compelled to use age verification tool.
Also, any and all Age Verification solutions must not make Britains cyber security worse overall, e.g. by building databases of the nations porn surfacing habits which might appear later on Wikileaks.
The Age Verification laws will hit the tube sites first, with all other porn and adult sites to follow. So there you have it. The way you watch porn is about to change forever.
I sound like I’m anti Age Verification and I’m not at all, I just doubt the governments motives. It seems like it’s less about protecting our kids and more like another way of keeping tabs on us. But we as Brits are a resiliant bunch and regardless of what happens we will dust ourselves off and carry on. Until then, let us enjoy gifs like this. Mwah x
